Accredited Recyclers: Since 2017, we have proudly been acredited ACTSmart Business recyclers. Our recycling programs are designed to minimize waste to landfill and maximise the recovery of valuable resources.
Solar: Ainslie IGA and Ainslie Cellars have installed a combined total of 293 solar panels, generating up to 114kW of renewable energy. This system significantly helps reduce our reliance on the grid and lowers our overall carbon footprint. It’s one of the many steps we’re taking to operate more sustainably and contribute to a cleaner future.
Cardboard Recycling: We ensure that all cardboard waste is properly sorted and recycled, preventing it from ending up in landfill.
Co-Mingled Recycling: All co-mingled items are recycled at Ainslie IGA. We've placed recycling bins throughout every corner of the store to ensure nothing recyclable ends up in general waste. We also advocated for the installation of the co-mingled recycling bins now located outside the store and bakery.
Soft Plastic Recycling: Soft plastics pose a significant challenge in waste management. At Ainslie IGA, we recycle all clear soft plastics, pallet and carton wrap to keep them out of landfill..
Organic Waste Composting: We believe in turning waste into a valuable resource. All our organic waste, including food scraps and other biodegradable materials, is sent to a local farm. There, it is transformed into nutrient-rich compost that supports sustainable agriculture and helps enrich the soil.
Boomerang Bags: Our Bag Drop Program began with the support of Boomerang Bags and has since grown into a valuable community resource. Bring in your excess bags for other customers to use. Forgot your bags? No problem! Grab one from the drop-off point and save a bag from going to landfill.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement: We are constantly exploring new ways to enhance our sustainability efforts. By investing in innovative technologies and practices, we strive to improve our recycling processes and reduce our overall environmental footprint.
